Full-Automatic Spinning Machines Will Be More Widely Adopted

The prices of automatic spinning machines and full-automatic CNC spinning machines differ from those of equivalent foreign equipment. Certain gaps still exist in product diversity, dimensional precision, production capacity, automation level, theoretical research and other aspects.

Over the past two decades, China’s spinning industry has achieved tremendous progress. The precision and functionality of some domestic machines have approached or reached the advanced standards of foreign counterparts. A small number of domestic universities including Beihang University and Harbin Institute of Technology have allocated research teams to study CNC spinning machines and made breakthroughs in theoretical exploration. Spinning machinery manufacturers in Guangdong Province have also made remarkable strides.

Especially in recent years, several domestic manufacturers have introduced advanced CNC spinning equipment from overseas, gradually maturing China’s metal spinning technology. Many domestic research institutions have developed stable and reliable metal spinning machine models that capture a notable share of the domestic market; nevertheless, certain high-end spinning equipment still relies on imports.

Spinning forming technology fixes blanks between a mandrel and tail tip, which rotate with the main spindle, while spinning rollers perform radial feed to shape workpieces. Metal spinning combines backward spinning and shear spinning forming processes. It boasts outstanding advantages such as high material utilization, fast forming speed, excellent surface finish, high machining precision and flexible production of diversified products.

Therefore, metal spinning technology is widely applied not only in precision metal processing for aerospace, aeronautics and military ordnance sectors, but also in petrochemicals, automobile manufacturing, electronics, light industry and other industries.

In addition, developed countries such as the United States, Japan and Germany have well-established metal spinning technology systems, with extensive advancements in equipment design, manufacturing, theoretical analysis and technical research. Domestic metal spinning technology originated in the early 1960s. After decades of development, China has yielded fruitful achievements in spinning processes and mechanical theoretical research — including innovative finite element analysis methods for spinning stress and strain as well as related technical and theoretical studies — continuously lifting the overall domestic spinning technology level.

Even so, current domestic spinning technology still fails to fully meet the demands of national economic development, with obvious weaknesses in theoretical research. Deficiencies in manufacturing capacity have become bottlenecks restricting the popularization and application of high-end heavy-duty spinning equipment in China. Intensified theoretical research on spinning forming processes and the establishment of standardized raw material systems are core priorities for advancing domestic spinning machine technology.
